Sausage Gnocchi

Sausage Gnocchi is a comforting Italian-inspired dish featuring tender potato gnocchi sautéed with flavorful Italian sausage and a savory tomato sauce. Perfect for a hearty weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and chicken broth. Stir in oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
  5. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat with the sausage tomato sauce. Heat through for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.

Notes

For extra richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream or top with a dollop of ricotta before serving.
