Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups cubed brioche or challah bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter or non-stick spray, for greasing
  • Optional: maple syrup, fresh berries, or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Place the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak all the pieces.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Remove the dish from the refrigerator and bake covered for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For extra texture, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking. This bake can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
