Crispy Teriyaki Tofu Cubes

Deliciously crispy tofu cubes glazed with homemade teriyaki sauce, perfect as a healthy snack or a savory addition to your meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 2 tbsp sake (optional)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu cubes and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake (if using), brown sugar, grated ginger, and garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in toasted sesame oil.
  6. Return tofu cubes to the skillet and pour the teriyaki sauce over them. Toss gently to coat and warm through for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Serve sprinkled with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired.

Notes

For extra crunch, bake the tofu cubes at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes before tossing in the sauce.
