Chinese Pepper Steak is a savory stir-fry featuring tender strips of beef, crisp bell peppers, and a flavorful soy-based sauce, perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, beef broth, sugar, salt, and black pepper to create the sauce.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the sliced flank steak and stir-fry until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add garlic and onion; stir-fry until fragrant and slightly softened.
  5. Add the bell peppers and continue to stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until crisp-tender.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the sauce mixture.
  7. Cook everything together, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly, about 2 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For extra depth, marinate the steak in soy sauce and a pinch of baking soda for 15 minutes before cooking to tenderize the meat.
