Broccoli Cheddar Orzo Bake

This creamy Broccoli Cheddar Orzo Bake combines tender broccoli, melted cheddar cheese, and tender orzo pasta in a comforting, baked casserole perfect for a hearty dinner.

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the orzo pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Steam or blanch the broccoli florets until tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the sauce. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Combine the cooked orzo, broccoli, and cheese sauce in a large bowl. Mix well.
  8. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

For added crunch, top with toasted breadcrumbs before baking or serve with a side of garlic bread for a complete meal.
