  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mini pretzels, crushed
  • Orange food coloring
  • Black icing or melted chocolate for basketball lines

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in crushed mini pretzels carefully to maintain some texture.
  7. Add orange food coloring a few drops at a time to achieve a vibrant orange dough.
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet and gently flatten them into discs.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  10. Let cookies cool completely before decorating with black icing or melted chocolate lines to resemble basketball seams.
  11. Allow icing to set before serving or storing.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt on top before baking or try dipping half the cookie in melted white chocolate.
