Apple Cider Donuts

These Apple Cider Donuts are soft, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, making a delicious autumn treat that captures the essence of fresh apple cider in every bite.

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the coating: 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, simmer apple cider over medium heat until reduced to about 1/2 cup, then let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs with sugars, then add buttermilk, melted butter, and cooled apple cider reduction; mix well.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined to form a soft dough.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. On a floured surface, roll dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
  7. Carefully fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Drain donuts on paper towels, then toss in the cinnamon sugar mixture while still warm.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a baked version, bake donuts at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes and then coat with cinnamon sugar. Serve warm with a hot cup of apple cider or coffee for an extra cozy experience.
